Rubber Continues to Dominate Other Materials for Industrial Hose Assemblies

Industrial Hose Assemblies Market

Industrial hoses are small pipe or pipeline used for carrying or transferring various fluids (water, gas, chemicals) from a source to machines and other applications. Most of these machines are either hydraulic or pneumatic in nature. Industrial hose assemblies include a hose, fittings, and a way to fix the hose into the fittings. In most of the industrial hose assemblies, the fittings have barbed ends that are fixed into the hose. Multiple types of materials are available for both industrial hose and its associated fittings for different applications. Certain things to be considered while choosing the material for industrial hose assemblies are chemical compatibility, flexibility, erosion and cost.

Different Materials for Industrial Hose Assemblies

Rubber: It is the most common material for industrial hose assemblies and other mobile machines. Rubber hose serves as plumbing route for hydraulic fluid between various fluid-power components such as tanks, pumps, valves, cylinders, and others. Industrial hose made from rubber is easy to route and install which also absorbs vibration and lowers noises. Hose assemblies or fittings are generally attached to the ends and are simple to make. By the type of reinforcement, rubber hoses are often referred to as braided or spiral. Braided industrial hoses are constructed by cross-braiding alternating rows of wires at particular opposing angle around the tube. Textile wires are used in low pressure rubber hose while braided steel-wire hoses are applicable for industrial machinery, construction equipment, fleet vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks. Spiral rubber hose are used for high pressure applications and they have tightly looped, alternating spiral layers of steel wire.

Metal: In industrial hose assemblies made of metals, hose fittings are welded onto the industrial hose. They are capable of withstanding high pressure and greater range of temperature. Metal hose assemblies have longer product life and their applications include petroleum industry, chemical plants, steel plants, power generation industry, and also in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Plastic: Polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE is also widely use in the construction of industrial hose assemblies which include PTFE hose liner and stainless steel fittings. They are mostly used in sanitary manufacturing process and also ensure clean processing. As PTFE based industrial hose assemblies are designed specifically for easy cleaning and draining, they do not impart any odor to the media being processed. PTFE hose assemblies are also ideal for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries as they prevent entry or growth of bacteria that can lead to contamination.
