New Technologies to Revolutionize Noise Control System in Various Industries

Noise Control System Market
Noise Control System Market

Technology aiming at reducing noise to acceptable levels is being introduced in various sectors such as automobile, manufacturing, aviation, etc. The technology or control strategy depends on the type of noise, noise levels, noise source, noise propagation pathway, etc. Hence companies are developing various noise control systems based on these factors. Companies are also using sound absorbing materials and these sound absorbing materials act as transducers, converting acoustic into thermal energy.

However, with the technology getting better manufacturers are producing smaller noise control systems using less raw material, making it feasible for industry use. Meanwhile, companies are focusing on producing in-built noise control systems in automobiles, airplanes, etc.

According to the latest report by Future Market Insights (FMI), APEJ noise control system market is anticipated to reach 46 basis points by 2027. While North America is expected to register 5.8% CAGR, exceeding $15 billion in 2027. APEJ is projected to increase to 6.0% CAGR between 2017 and 2027 and also expected to exceed $12 billion by 2027 end. Healthcare industry is driving the noise control system market. As the noise control systems are being installed in hospitals to decrease stress levels and enhance patient recovery.

Moreover, the automobile industry is also using noise control system in their cars. Several automakers such as Honda and Toyota are focusing on improving noise control technology in cars.

Emerging technologies to transform noise control system

With growing number of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants in Europe and UK, various challenges are arising like noise impact on surrounding area. Moreover, on-site CHP is being installed for hospitals, facilitating electricity supply, district and retail heating, etc. This is increasing the issue of noise in all these industries. Hence, manufacturers are building noise control solution, where all the components in the system are designed with an acoustic point of view, ensuring the passage through which excessive noise can pass.

The aviation industry is also moving towards reducing noise by installing advanced noise control systems. In the case of helicopters, rotors are the main source of the noise. However, German Aerospace Center along with Airbus Helicopters Deutschland has tested five-blade rotor in a wind tunnel as the part of a research project. The test has resulted in 30% reduction in noise. With active rotor control, researchers were able to reduce vibrations done by the rotor exceeding 80%. While the amount of power required by the main rotor was decreased by more than 5%.

The automobile industry is also focusing towards using environmentally friendly and efficient engines to lower the noise frequency. Active Noise Control (ANC) technology is being developed for cars that help to eliminate unwanted noise from the engine. A noise canceling system is also being installed in audio devices. This audio noise control technology identifies the frequency of noise and increases signal gain i.e. voice or music.

With the emerging market for hybrid and electric vehicles, automakers have developed side mirrors that take airflow away from window, suspensions and eliminates road or outside noise. These side mirrors are made with help of mannequins with mics and big spherical cameras. Volkswagen is adopting smart engineering concept. For example, the company in its new Golf Mk7 has replaced flat firewall with waffle-shaped one by separating engine compartment from cabin to absorb vibrations.
