Rising Popularity of Cosmetic Dental Surgery Creates Demand for Improved Imaging Equipment

Dental imaging technology is primarily utilized to see dental structures that are not easily visible, to check for oral health issues including unusual growths, bone masses, cavities, and other forms of damage that cannot be seen through conventional check-up procedures.

Dental radiographs, also known as dental x-rays are performed by using highly controlled bursts of x-ray radiations that enter oral cavities at various frequencies to extract clear images for appropriate diagnosis and treatment of dental problems. The traditional analog intra-oral X-rays have largely been replaced in recent years, with advanced and innovative imaging techniques including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and ultrasound diagnostics.

Digitalization to Define the Future of Dental Imaging Equipment

The movement of dental health procedures from analogue to digital dental imaging equipment has simplified imaging procedures and improved speeds. As a result of this change dentists are provided with numerous options for image storage, modification, and recovery.

In addition, the rising use of computed tomography procedures, that are commonly referred to as CT scans, are also being increasingly adopted in the field of dentistry, to produce appropriate imaging for complex procedures including dental implants or gum disease treatment procedures among others.

Three dimensional (3D) imaging tools and procedures has made it easier for dentists to visualize the complex cranio-facial framework that enables accurate diagnostics, in-depth investigation by dentists and is expected to result in further optimization of treatments.

Manufacturers Focus on Innovative Product Launches

As per a recent study by future market insights on the global dental imaging equipment market, manufacturers of dental imaging equipment are increasingly emphasizing on new technologies for new product launches, with wider range of functionality. Modern dental materials and techniques are not easily accessible, and apart from treating dental diseases, dental cosmetic procedures usually only treated one tooth at a time. However, today most dentists take the entire set of teeth into account during procedures, with the help of modern cosmetic imaging (CI) tools and materials, which are resulting in the development of innovations in this field.

For instance, leading dental technology provider Carestream Dental released its latest CS Imaging 7 software that can be used a standalone tool or even integrated with the practice management software, as a stable platform for CAD or CAM systems, along with various types of dental imaging equipment. It has a unique automatic tracing tool that enables extremely fast cephalometric tracings of the teeth, without compromising on accuracy, in addition to a simplified user interface that can be used even by new users.

Similarly, Planmeca Oy revealed its wide range of 3D dental imaging devices, one of which is the Planmeca ProMax 3D Max. The device provides dental healthcare professionals with innovative maxillofacial imaging tools, which allows imaging of the full head, or even of just a single tooth. The device is integrated with a dedicated CBCT X-ray unit, and diagnostics for periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, and maxillofacial surgery among others.

Dentsply Sirona also revealed its range of Xios XG Supreme sensors that work with modern x-ray units, with high quality imaging, WiFi connectivity, and modular designs for intraoral diagnostics.
