Advanced Technologies to Save Cost and Energy in PET Blow Moulding

With the increasing production of processed beverages and natural once, plastic and glass bottles are being used on a large scale. The bottle manufacturers are using advanced PET blow moulding machines. With plastic being the largest used material, Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) blow moulding is popular among manufacturers of plastic bottles for soft drink companies. However, in order to save the cost and fulfill customer demand of PET bottles, manufacturers have started reducing an amount of raw material, thereby resulting in thin bottles. Hence, bottles are not able to bear the force during filling and quality checking. Moreover, customizing the bottles have also become a trend among various brands, but due to acute stretch ration, these bottles tend to break or bend. Hence, manufacturers are focusing on producing better PET blow moulding machines.

According to the report by Future Market Insights (FMI), the U.S. PET blow moulder market is anticipated to register 4.5% CAGR during 2016-2026. It is expected to exceed $40 million by 2026. The U.S. is also projected to reach 110 basis point by 2026. However, the energy required to manufacture PET bottles is leading to the high cost for the companies. Moreover, rising demand for bio-based material for packaging is hampering the PET blow moulding market.

New technologies to drive demand for PET blow moulding

To reduce the cost of PET blow moulding, manufacturers are using innovative techniques of recirculating high-pressure compressed air and light weighting the PET bottles. These techniques have helped to reduce the energy consumption of PET blow moulding. Light weighting is the technique to reduce the quantity of PET in producing the plastic bottle. Meanwhile, reducing the weight of PET bottles, automatically reduces the requirement for compressed air pressure, resulting in energy saving.

Moreover, recycling high-pressure compressed air using compressed air recovery system is being used on a large scale, saving cost and energy. To maintain the supply of compressed air in PET blow moulding, manufacturers are focusing on implementing advanced compressed air systems to maintain the pressure. These systems also make it possible to recirculate compressed air.

Companies are also investing in advanced PET blow moulding machines. For instance, Organic Milk, a Ukrainian-based dairy producer invested in automatic stretch blow moulding machine. The company installed PET Technologies APF-3002 machine. APF-3002 can produce 3000 bottles per hour. The machine also has air cooling and heating system, producing high-quality bottles.

Aventics is another company is focusing towards producing complex bottle shapes and small batches. It is introducing new technology that can control PET bottle formation and adjust it during the blow moulding process. The company has also partnered with another company to complete the research on blow moulding process and also validated various sample settings during a pilot production of new bottles.

The companies are also reducing bottle size to help customer regulate soft drink intake by enabling customers to measure. Since PET blow moulding machines are used to produce a large quantity of bottles. Manufacturers are also focusing on producing machines that can handle small volumes, thereby minimizing wastage and reducing the cost for small scale companies.
